What is a supervised Rapid Antigen Test (RAT)?
A supervised RAT test involves a Blooms The Chemist Pharmacist supervising the self-testing of a Rapid Antigen Test for COVID-19.
After your test is complete in just 20 minutes, you’ll receive:
• A certificate that includes your name, date of birth and your passport number
• The type and brand of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) used during the self-testing
• The date and time of the test
• Your result from the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and the details of the pharmacy where you had your appointment
The in-store RAT results take about five minutes to provide certification of a negative result on the same day.
It is not the same as a RAT test that’s performed by a healthcare professional in a supervised environment.
Why do I need a supervised Rapid Antigen Test (RAT)?
Some countries require travellers to provide a supervised RAT certificate before they’re allowed to enter the country.
It’s up to you to prepare the right documentation that allows you to enter the country, as there are sometimes specific pre-flight testing requirements that depend on the country you’re visiting.
Before booking your supervised Rapid Antigen Test, please check what is required upon entry for the destination you are planning to visit.
How much does a Pre-departure Supervised Rapid Antigen Test cost?
To book and to discover the total cost of a Pre-departure Supervised Rapid Antigen Test, please contact your local Blooms The Chemist. You can find your local Blooms The Chemist here.
Pre-departure Supervised Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) FAQs
Can I book a supervised Rapid Antigen Test for children?
Yes, it is.
Children aged 2-11 can have this test performed by an adult legal guardian as it isn’t administered by our Pharmacist. As the Pharmacist is only supervising, the adult legal guardian is able to administer the test if the child is unable to complete a self-test by themselves.
Children aged 12 or older may require a different RAT test administered for the self-test. Please let our team know beforehand if children require a supervised self-test.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Make sure you have your passport with you, as it’s advised that you bring a valid form of Photo ID to your appointment.
It is also advised by our Pharmacy team to arrive five minutes before your appointment to fill out the necessary paperwork required.
Can I bring my own RAT test to the appointment?
No. We strictly advise you to not bring your own rapid antigen tests, as there is no way to ensure that storage conditions have been maintained.
You must perform your self-test with a RAT test purchased at Blooms The Chemist at the time of your appointment.
What happens if my Rapid Antigen Test is positive during my screening?
If you do test positive during this supervised test, you’ll be immediately referred to the state or territory’s positive COVID-19 results page and be advised by our Pharmacist to immediately isolate.

General Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) FAQs
What is a Rapid Antigen Test?
A Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) is a quick and accurate test for COVID-19. RATS can sometimes detect COVID-19 before you develop symptoms, and you can do them in the comfort of your own home, without a doctor.
For the most accurate results, please follow the instructions available on the packaging. It’s generally good practice to keep RATS at home close by in case you need to test for COVID-19.
When do I need to use a Rapid Antigen Test?
Rapid Antigen Tests are most accurate when you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, so it’s best to use the test in the first 7 days from when symptoms appear1.
