Blooms The Chemist's national blister pack recycling program
Blooms The Chemist is proud be partnering with Pharmacycle, offering an end-to-end blister pack recycling program in pharmacies nationwide.
As blister packs are made of different materials including plastic and aluminium, they can’t be put into your yellow bins for kerbside recycling. Blisters can only be recycled using specialised technology.
As of November 2024, over 10 million blister packs have been collected with over 15,000 kilograms of plastic and aluminium being recovered and recycled.
If you would like to participate in this recycling program, visit your local Blooms The Chemist today. You can find your local Blooms The Chemist store here.

Addressing modern slavery in our supply chain
Today, 40.3 million people live in modern slavery
This is unacceptable.
Blooms The Chemist believes it is our collective responsibility to address and eradicate the practice of modern slavery.
That's why we have been working with our top tier supplier partners and key service providers to assess and reduce the risk of modern slavery in our business operations.
This wasn’t something we were required to do, but it is the right thing to do.
You can find out more about modern slavery and the actions we're taking here.
Recycling and a commitment to reducing waste
Blooms The Chemist is proud to be partnering with Strepsils, Gavascon and Nurofen who are offering an end-to-end blister pack recycling program in selected pharmacies nationwide.
This partnership will be running from October to December, giving our pharmacies and local communities the opportunity to recycle their blister packs.
As blister packs are made of different materials, including plastic and aluminium, they can’t be recycled through normal recycling through your yellow bin and need to be recycled using specialised technology.
The program will help us reduce our carbon footprint and help our local communities to do the same.
If you want to participate in this recycling program, visit your local Blooms The Chemist today. You can find your local Blooms The Chemist store here.
Our people
Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we're committed to investing in our team to ensure they’re empowered and engaged so they can provide better services, advice, products, and resources to support our customers in their health and wellbeing journey.
Key initiatives we've implemented over the past year include:
- Nationwide mental health first aid training for team members, to reduce stigma and provide critical tools to recognise and respond to someone experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.
- Conducting our first employee health and wellbeing survey, with the aim of identifying how we can better support and improve our team’s health and wellbeing.
- Launching a dedicated Employee Assistance Program, designed to enhance the emotional, mental, and general psychological wellbeing of all team members and their families.
Our charity partners
Our work with our three major charity partners support some of our most vulnerable people.
Since 2016, we have been an official charity partner of Make-A-Wish® Australia. Thanks to the support of our stores, supplier partners, and communities, we have raised over $1.3 million to grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses.
Our partnership with Gidget Foundation Australia, a perinatal mental health organisation, has assisted the charity in providing vital psychological and wellbeing support for expectant and new parents.
We continue to work together to create greater awareness of perinatal depression and anxiety and provide further access to resources and information on available support.
We’ve also continued to support the work of The Butterfly Tree Charity, with whom we built a much-needed maternity ward and mother’s shelter facility in Simonga, Zambia, in 2019.
Our regular donations have funded additional water access, and vital medical equipment and supplies, to rural villages in Zambia throughout the ongoing effects of the pandemic.
