Jojoba oil: The natural boost for your skin

Jojoba oil has quickly become a favourite in skincare, and for good reason.

Known for its lightweight, nourishing qualities, jojoba oil is packed with skin-loving nutrients like vitamin E, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids.

What are the benefits of using jojoba oil for my skin?

Jojoba oil has many benefits for your skin, including 1:

  • Being suitable for all skin types. For dry skin, jojoba oil can deeply nourish and hydrate your skin. For oily skin, jojoba oil can help regulate your skin’s oil production.
  • Not clogging your pores. Jojoba is non-comedogenic, which means it won’t clog your pores like other oils.
  • Containing essential fatty acids. Jojoba oil contains fatty acids like Omega 6 and 9, which can help maintain your skin barrier and improve skin elasticity.
  • Having essential antioxidants and vitamins. Jojoba oil includes Vitamin A, which is an antioxidant that can boost collagen production. Vitamin D and Vitamin E are also found in jojoba oil, which can protect and rejuvenate your skin while also helping it retain moisture.

How can I use jojoba oil?

While some prefer to use it as a facial oil as part of their skincare routine as an anti-ageing serum, others have used it as 1:

  • A moisturiser for your hair and scalp
  • An all-over body oil
  • A cuticle oil to give your fingernails some extra love
  • A moisturising oil for dry or cracked lips

Some men have even found that it soothes their irritated skin after shaving or as a beard oil to keep their beard hair healthy.

Jojoba oil doesn’t need to be diluted and can be applied directly to your skin. However, we recommend doing a patch test first to see if you’re allergic.

When should I use jojoba oil?

You can gently massage one to two pumps of jojoba oil into your damp skin both morning and night.

If you want to integrate it into your skincare routine, it should be included before applying a moisturiser but after you’ve cleansed, added toner and applied a serum.

This is because jojoba has a heavier oil-like consistency, and you want to apply your skincare products from lightest to heaviest.

Is jojoba only available in an oil?

Jojoba is available in a range of skincare products, including lip balms, serums, day creamsoils and masks.

How do I pronounce jojoba?

This can be tricky for many, as jojoba isn’t spelt as it sounds! Instead of saying ‘jo-jo-ba’ oil, you change the j to a h, saying ‘ho-ho-ba’ instead.

Whether used alone or as part of your skincare routine, jojoba oil is a versatile addition that promotes healthy, glowing skin.
