Get a better picture of your health in just 20 minutes

Want to make 2025 the year of health? Good health starts with staying informed about your body and what’s going on. Get started with these essential health checks.

A blood pressure evaluation

Your blood pressure affects more systems in your body than you think.

As high blood pressure (also known as hypertension) has no noticeable symptoms, it’s often nicknamed ‘the silent killer’, and if left uncontrolled, can lead to a heart attack or stroke.

Regular blood pressure evaluations can help you keep an eye on your levels and identify early signs of hypertension.

Many people check yearly, but if you are over 40, have a family history of hypertension, you should check more frequently.

A Blood Pressure Evaluation at Blooms The Chemist only takes five minutes to complete, which isn’t long to wait for a clearer picture around your health.

Your age, current health, family history and lifestyle choices can impact how often you need to check up on your health.

A cholesterol screening

Your body needs cholesterol to function, but too much "bad" cholesterol (low density lipoproteins or LDL) can lead to plaque build-up in your arteries, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke.

The Cholesterol Screening available at Blooms The Chemist can measure your total cholesterol levels, which is just one aspect of your cholesterol health.

It’s recommended you check your cholesterol every four to six years and more frequently if you have a family history of high cholesterol or heart disease.

If you’re interested in a full breakdown of your good cholesterol (high density lipoprotein or HDL), your bad cholesterol (LDL) and your triglyceride levels, you’ll need to visit your healthcare provider for a full blood test.

A cholesterol screening at Blooms The Chemist should take about three minutes and is free.

There are usually no symptoms of high cholesterol, but if it's left untreated, it can lead to a heart attack or stroke.

A blood glucose screening

High blood sugar levels can indicate diabetes or pre-diabetes, which, if left untreated, can lead to serious complications like nerve damage, vision loss, and cardiovascular problems.

The Diabetes Monitoring (or Blood Glucose Screening) available can measure the amount of glucose in your blood, which can monitor your risk of diabetes.

However, please note that this test will not confirm if you have diabetes. A high blood glucose reading only indicates that there may be an issue.

We recommend that you speak with your healthcare practitioner for specific testing around diabetes after getting your results from the reading.

This check is free and takes around a minute.

Blood glucose levels are normally regulated by insulin, which is a hormone made by your pancreas.

An iron screening

Low iron levels can lead to iron deficiency anaemia, which causes fatigue, weakness, and difficulty concentrating.

On the other hand, too much iron can harm your liver and other organs.

The Iron Screening available at Blooms The Chemist gives an indication of the amount of haemoglobin in your blood, which can give an indication of the level of iron in your blood.

Our Pharmacists can help to identify if you have an iron deficiency and suggest ways you can increase your iron levels.

This check is free and should take roughly one minute.

About one third of the world's population is iron deficient1.
